I suppose one could listen to click events by using a solution such as this:

I wonder if it supports clickevents on invidual subviews (ie, buttons inside each list item)?

What specifically are you looking for? Generally when using this library the preferred way to achieve on click events is to use the standard data binding model of passing the onclick listeners as apart of your data model and assigning them via data binding. As outlined here under Event Handling.

So if just something like android:onClick="@{handlers::onClickButton1" inside of my item layout I will be able to call a function with that name in MainActivity.java?
If the above is true, the I suppose the only limitation is that I don't get access to the index of clicked item, however I can use something like setTag()/getTag() to overcome this limitation.

Correct you would not have the index of the currently selected onclick listener. What I usually do in this situation is place w/e data item i used to populate the view in the [setTag](https://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#setTag%28int, java.lang.Object%29) method. That i can then retrieve in the callback.
