Persist both battery-backed devices when the machine stops, using atomic file replacement to preserve the previous image on failure. Initialize erased IP28 motherboard EEPROMs with PROM defaults, volume 80, boottune 1, and a valid checksum before the first boot. Preserve existing guest settings and Ethernet addresses. Add stop/reload, serial-write persistence, initialization, and failed-save tests. Document automatic saving and first-boot behavior.
