Occasional black screen - must close and restart Finch to recover #46

Summary

Occasionally the Finch Desktop screen goes completely black. The only way to recover is to close and restart the application.

Steps to reproduce

1. Use Finch normally for an extended period.
2. At some point, the screen unexpectedly turns black.
3. UI elements are not visible.
4. Close and restart Finch to restore normal operation.

Expected behavior

The application should never display a blank/black screen unexpectedly. If a rendering error occurs, it should either recover automatically or display an error message.

Actual behavior

The screen goes entirely black. No UI is visible. The user has no choice but to force-close and restart.

Frequency

Occasional / intermittent. Exact trigger unknown.
