Dan Novak, Provider of Clarity

Senior/Staff full-stack engineer, frontend-leaning: TypeScript, Vue, React, Node, SQL. 28 years, usually as the sole engineer taking a problem from ambiguity to production. Portland, OR. Remote.

I build the tool that removes a recurring cost for the people who use it. Developer experience, internal tooling, and product engineering are the work I want.

AI is a clarity tool, not an expertise replacement. Model output is a draft. Deterministic gates decide what is true.

I cheat, but I cheat fair.

Core: TypeScript · Vue · React · Node · SQL (PostgreSQL, SQLite, SQL Server) · HTML5/CSS3 · design systems and theming · WCAG 2.1 AA / Section 508 · SCORM 1.2 / 2004 · AICC · xAPI · MCP servers

Featured work

SCORM Debugger: emulator save-states for eLearning

Testing a gated course meant clicking through every state combination by hand. I built a Vue.js wrapper with a fake SCORM API, save-states, and instant replay. A test cycle went from hours to minutes.

CSBB Dispatch: cross-domain content delivery

I architected a cross-domain SCORM/AICC delivery framework in 2011: stub packages on each client LMS, content served centrally, protocol translation in between. It cut maintenance across 20+ enterprise clients for more than a decade. It predates Rustici Content Controller by five years.

The Evidence Gate: blocking AI overclaims

career-tooling is a TypeScript pipeline on Postgres. Its provenance gate refuses to emit any document carrying a claim that does not trace to reviewed evidence. I also built an MCP server over it, one of two MCP servers I have written in TypeScript on the official SDK.

Hybrid AI architecture: structured data for state, AI for interaction

Prompt engineering alone could not enforce state; the model was acting as both interface and data store. I architected an agent prototype that confines the model to conversational routing and puts everything that must be correct into deterministic, schema-bound structures.

Theming a multi-subsidiary rebrand

On a global learning platform, I reverse-engineered an undocumented styling layer and built the theming system that let drifted subsidiary brands be rebranded at all. React frontend, federated GraphQL over four backend systems.
