[Bug - Edge Addons] <Extension report pages are indexed by search engines and rank prominently for extension brand names> #746
Description
Describe the bug
Microsoft Edge Add-ons report pages are publicly indexable by search engines.
The report page for our extension, AiPrice, has been indexed by Baidu and appears prominently when users search for the brand name “AiPrice”:
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/report/mdlcdgmcaceammhekheabondocjocike
Official extension listing:
A report page is a functional form for submitting a complaint. It is not an extension information page and should not be presented as a search result for the extension’s brand name.
Its prominent appearance in search results may also mislead users into believing that the extension has already been reported, flagged, or found to be problematic. This can damage the reputation of legitimate extensions and confuse users looking for the official listing.
Steps to reproduce
Open Baidu.
Search for AiPrice.
Locate the result from microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/report/.
Observe that the extension report page is indexed and ranks prominently for the AiPrice brand name.
Open the result and confirm that it leads to the report form rather than the official extension listing.
Actual behavior
The report URL is accessible to search-engine crawlers and can appear prominently in organic search results for the extension name.
Expected behavior
Report pages under the following path should not be indexed by any search engine:
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/report/*
The official extension listing should be the Microsoft Edge Add-ons page eligible to appear in search results.
Suggested solution
Please consider implementing one or more of the following measures:
Add the following meta tag to every extension report page:
Alternatively, return the following HTTP response header:
X-Robots-Tag: noindex, nofollow
Remove report URLs from any sitemap or internal structure intended for search-engine discovery.
Request removal or recrawling of report URLs that have already been indexed.
Review the metadata and internal links associated with report pages to ensure they do not compete with official extension listing pages in search results.
Blocking these URLs only through robots.txt may not be sufficient to remove URLs that have already been indexed. Returning a noindex directive on the page or through an HTTP response header would be more reliable.

Hi AiPrice-admin
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and for providing the detailed information, URLs, and supporting screenshot.
From your report, I understand that the Edge Add-ons report page associated with your extension is being indexed by Baidu and appears in search results for the "AiPrice" brand name. I also understand your concern that report pages are intended only for submitting complaints and may unintentionally create confusion for users or negatively impact the perception of legitimate extensions when surfaced in search results.
I have shared the details with the relevant team for further review and investigation. The information you provided, including the affected report URL, official listing URL, search query, and screenshot evidence, will help the team better assess the behavior and determine whether any changes are required regarding search-engine indexing of report pages.
At this time, we do not have any additional information to share, but we will update this thread if we receive further guidance or findings from the investigation.
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and for your detailed feedback.
