Adds a third band to the device picker, ranked between the Backer/Partner vendors and Community Supported. Axiometa is the first maker vendor.

Why the vendor tag and not supportLevel

Prominence in this modal has always been driven by a vendor axis, not by supportLevel. The maker rung extends that axis, but takes its value from the registry rather than a local list — api#145 publishes isMaker on the device entry, so this repo doesn't keep a vendor allow-list in step with it. The top rung still reads supportedVendorDeviceTags, because the Backer/Partner relationship isn't something the registry publishes.

Why not supportLevel:

  • supportLevel is the registry's capability grade. Its only written definition in the org is Meshtastic-Apple's SupportLevel.swift — 0 discontinued, 1 flagship, 2 niche, 3 legacy — and meshtastic/api validates it to {1,2,3}. It cannot carry a commercial rung.
  • A fourth numeric value would drop the board from the picker entirely: sortedDevices concatenates exactly the === 1, === 2 and (?? 3) === 3 buckets, and a 4 matches none of them.

So isMaker picks the rung and supportLevel keeps its existing job of demoting legacy hardware out of the top two bands. A maker board needs no vendor tag at all, and Backer/Partner outranks maker for a board marked both.

What's in it

  • utils/deviceTier.ts — one deviceTier() resolver, replacing both copies of the local isSupporterDevice() helper in Device.vue and DeviceDetail.vue.

  • One --tier-* token pair per rung, with the section heading and the card mark sharing it, so the ladder reads by hue and not only by order. These are declared values rather than derivations of --accent, which applyEventTheme() rewrites per event edition.

    token dark light
    --tier-supported #67ea94 · 10.5:1 #137136 · 5.9:1
    --tier-maker #7dd3fc · 9.6:1 #075985 · 7.3:1
    --tier-community #e8a33e · 7.5:1 #a16207 · 4.7:1
  • lucide Wrench as the maker mark, beside BadgeCheck and ShieldAlert. All three marks gained a title.

  • A single Makers pill filters the whole tier, rather than the row gaining a pill per maker vendor the way the Backer/Partner row does. filteredDevices only understood vendor tags and architectures, so it gains a tier branch keyed on MAKER_TIER_FILTER; setSelectedTag already toggles and clears, so the pill behaves like every other one.

  • Each band's heading and leading divider are gated on that band having cards. The Supported heading was unconditional, so any filter that empties the top band left it standing over nothing with a stray divider below — reachable today via an architecture pill, and hit every time by the Makers pill. The affiliate disclosure stays unconditional, since maker and community boards below supportLevel 3 carry product links too.

  • The band and its pill are suppressed while no maker board is in the registry. Axiometa isn't in the live list yet, so on main this PR renders exactly as today. The pill is read from the unfiltered target list, so selecting another vendor doesn't remove the pill you'd use to get back.

Three fixes that fall out of unifying the tier logic

  • The card mark and the section heading now agree, and both pass contrast. text-warning resolved to the Tailwind config's #E8A33E rather than the value main.css declares — main.css emits @tailwind components before @tailwind utilities, so Tailwind's generated utility wins at equal specificity. That left the Community heading at 2.1:1 in light theme. The green rosette shipped as text-green-400 in both themes, at 1.7:1 on a light card — effectively invisible. The new classes are named so Tailwind doesn't generate a competing utility.
  • Device artwork is gated on d.images rather than on the vendor allow-list, so a board whose registry entry has artwork shows it whatever its tier. The gate can only add artwork, never remove it.
  • The badge row wraps instead of clipping. It was flex with no wrap inside a 224px overflow-hidden card, so any board with three chips overflowed.

Behaviour change worth a look

A missing supportLevel now counts as 3, matching deviceStore's sort and boardAttributes' telemetry. Device.vue tested supportLevel != 3, and undefined != 3 is true — so an untiered board with a known vendor tag landed in the top section while the sort put it last and the product link stayed hidden. All eight such entries are activelySupported: false today, so this is only visible behind the unsupported-device reveal.

Testing

pnpm test:run — 23 files, 296 tests, green. New coverage:

  • utils/deviceTier.test.ts — each rung, both allow-lists, the ?? 3 default, missing tags, and the both-tags precedence case.
  • stores/deviceStore.test.ts — a sortedDevices length invariant. That's the guard that would have caught a board vanishing from the picker and from alphanautStore's hardware-override list, which reads the same getter. Plus the maker tier filter: it selects across vendors, leaves vendor-tag and architecture filtering alone, and clears on toggle.

Verified in the browser in both themes: the three headings resolve to the tokens above, the Wrench renders on maker cards, and no device is lost from the list (85 cards before and after). Filter states, with a maker vendor temporarily seeded so the tier wasn't empty — unfiltered: 3 headings / 2 dividers / 85 cards; Makers: 1 heading / 0 dividers / 2 cards across two vendors; RAK: 2 headings / 1 divider; rp2040: 3 headings / 2 dividers; toggling Makers back off restores the unfiltered state exactly. With the registry as it stands the maker band and pill collapse cleanly — no heading, no pill, no orphan divider.

Notes for review

  • types/resources.ts is no longer touched at all now that the rung comes from the registry, so the only CODEOWNERS-gated path left is i18n/locales/en.json.
  • i18n/locales/en.json gains device.maker_devices and device.makers only. supported_devices and diy_devices are translated in all 24 locales, so this will be the one untranslated heading until Crowdin picks it up — and crowdin-upload-sources.yml triggers on pushes to master while the default branch is main, so it needs a manual workflow_dispatch.
  • The new template lines match the surrounding indentation, which vue/html-indent already disagrees with across this file (144 pre-existing errors). lint:fix would reindent the whole template and bury the diff; lint isn't in CI. The three new v-fors do carry :key, which the existing ones don't — pre-existing warnings went from 6 to 4.
  • Not fixed here: no filter pill has a selected state. All Devices is hardcoded lit and every vendor pill hardcoded unlit, with no binding to store.tag, so clicking Makers filters the list while All Devices stays lit. That's true of all nine existing pills, so it's not a regression, but the new pill makes it easier to notice. Happy to fix it in a follow-up.
  • api#145 has merged and is live (117 devices), carrying isMaker: true, images: ["axiometa-genesis-mini.svg"] and the corrected isMaker?: boolean type. This PR's types/api.ts matches it exactly, and the artwork now comes from the registry rather than needing a follow-up.
  • The band is still hidden, and that is upstream. I claimed earlier in this PR that it would appear once api#145 deployed; that was wrong. The entry ships activelySupported: false, which routes the board into unsupportedApiTargets behind the Konami gate. Verified against the live API: the picker shows 85 cards and two bands, exactly as before this PR. It needs activelySupported: true in the registry — or the flasher would have to treat isMaker as its own reveal condition, which I would not recommend while the next point holds.
  • There is no flashable build. The variant landed on firmware develop on 2026-09-17, a day after the current nightly (2.8.1.67e8aaf, commit 67e8aaf) was cut, and it has not rolled since — every firmware-axiometa-genesis-mini-* URL still 404s while a control target returns 200. board_level = pr puts it in every CI matrix, but the 2026-09-18 scheduled build failed on an unrelated picow/rp2040 job, so this needs a manual main_matrix.yml dispatch rather than waiting. Revealing the board before a binary exists would give it a permanently disabled Flash button with nothing explaining why.
  • The registry entry carries no url, so the Product link falls back to https://msh.to/axiometa-genesis-mini; worth confirming that short link resolves.
  • Still open, and deliberately out of scope: Meshnology W10/W12, Waveshare RP2040 LoRa and RadioMaster 900 Bandit Nano are graded supportLevel 1 or 2 upstream but read as Community here, because their tags are on neither allow-list. Meshnology's artwork now renders thanks to the image-gate fix, but their band placement is unchanged.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Devices are now organized into Supported, Maker, and Community tiers.
    • Added Maker device labels, filtering, and tier-specific colors and styling.
    • Device details now show tier-specific icons, labels, and accessible descriptions.
    • Available device images are displayed across all tiers.
    • Added localized “Maker Devices” and “Makers” labels.

Adds a third band to the device picker, ranked between the Backer/Partner
vendors and Community Supported. Axiometa is the first maker vendor.

The rung is chosen by vendor tag, not by supportLevel. supportLevel is the
registry's capability grade - validated upstream to {1,2,3} and meaning
flagship / niche / legacy - so it cannot carry a commercial rung. Modelling
the tier as a fourth numeric value would also drop the board from the picker
entirely, since sortedDevices concatenates exactly the 1, 2 and (?? 3) === 3
buckets.

- makerVendorDeviceTags, alongside supportedVendorDeviceTags
- one deviceTier() resolver in utils/, replacing both copies of the local
isSupporterDevice() helper in Device.vue and DeviceDetail.vue
- one --tier-* token pair per rung, heading and card mark sharing it, so the
ladder reads by hue and not only by order. Declared values rather than
derivations of --accent, which applyEventTheme() rewrites per event edition
- lucide Wrench as the maker mark, beside BadgeCheck and ShieldAlert
- the maker band, its heading and its filter pill are all suppressed while no
maker board is in the registry, so nothing renders empty

Three fixes fall out of unifying the tier logic:

- the card mark and the section heading now agree. text-warning resolved to
the Tailwind config's #E8A33E rather than the value main.css declares, which
left the Community heading at 2.1:1 in light theme; the green rosette shipped
as text-green-400 in both themes, at 1.7:1 on a light card. Both now use
tokens that pass in either theme
- device artwork is gated on d.images rather than on the vendor allow-list, so
a board with artwork in the registry shows it whatever its tier
- the badge row wraps instead of clipping. It was flex with no wrap inside a
224px overflow-hidden card, so any board with three chips overflowed

A missing supportLevel now counts as 3, matching deviceStore's sort and
boardAttributes' telemetry. Device.vue tested `!= 3`, so an untiered board with
a known vendor tag landed in the top section while the sort put it last and the
product link stayed hidden. All eight such entries are activelySupported:
false today, so this is only visible behind the unsupported-device reveal.

Tests cover the resolver and add a sortedDevices length invariant - the guard
that would have caught a board vanishing from the picker and from
alphanautStore's hardware-override list, which reads the same getter.

Axiometa's artwork is included, but it will not render until the registry entry
carries images: ["axiometa-genesis-mini.svg"].

Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.

Replaces the per-vendor maker pill with a single tier-level Makers pill, so
the row does not grow a pill every time a maker vendor is added.

filteredDevices only understood vendor tags and architectures, so it gains a
tier branch keyed on MAKER_TIER_FILTER. setSelectedTag already toggles and
clears, so the pill behaves like every other one.

Also gates each band's heading and its leading divider on that band having
cards. The Supported heading was unconditional, so filtering to Makers left it
standing over an empty band with a stray divider below - reachable before this
via an architecture pill, but the Makers pill hits it every time. The affiliate
disclosure stays unconditional: maker and community boards below supportLevel 3
carry product links too.

Use project theme tokens for tier colors.

These tier colors use raw hex values. Replace them with existing project theme tokens. Use var(--accent) for the supported tier instead of raw #67ea94.

As per coding guidelines, use project Tailwind theme tokens instead of raw hex values.

Comment thread components/DeviceDetail.vue Outdated
A lucide icon carries no accessible name of its own, and the `title` I passed
rendered as a bare `title` attribute on the <svg> - which is neither a tooltip
(SVG tooltips come from a <title> child) nor a label. So the tier was conveyed
by colour and icon shape alone, which is what the mark was meant to avoid.

The icon is now explicitly decorative, the wrapper carries the tooltip as a
real HTML title attribute, and an sr-only span supplies the name - the same
pattern DeviceHeader.vue uses for its close button. One tierLabel computed
replaces the three duplicated bindings.

Cards now announce as e.g. "LILYGO T-Echo Supported Devices".

Reported by CodeRabbit on #446.
Replaces the local makerVendorDeviceTags allow-list with the isMaker flag
meshtastic/api#145 now publishes on the device entry, so the registry owns the
rung rather than this repo keeping a vendor list in step with it.

Three things fall out:

- types/resources.ts goes back to matching main, so the PR no longer touches a
  CODEOWNERS-protected file.
- A maker board no longer needs a vendor tag at all. The top rung still reads
supportedVendorDeviceTags, because the Backer/Partner relationship is not
  something the registry publishes.
- Backer/Partner still outranks maker for a board marked both.

supportLevel keeps its existing job of demoting legacy hardware out of the top
two bands, and isMaker false and isMaker absent behave identically.
Adds an opt-in overlay for boards the firmware repo builds but that the device
registry has not published yet, so the picker can be previewed in the gap. The
Axiometa Genesis Mini is the first: /?pending=1 puts it in the Maker band with
its artwork, the nightly pinning and the product link.

Off by default, deliberately. No published release or nightly carries the
variant yet - it landed on develop a day after the current nightly was cut - so
offering the board to everyone would put a permanently disabled Flash button in
front of them with nothing explaining why. Gating it also keeps the overlay out
of every existing targets assertion.

The entry mirrors the firmware variant's custom_meshtastic_* metadata, the same
source the registry generates from, and drops out by itself once the API
publishes the same platformioTarget.

🌐 Web query:

mande npm package get<T> runtime validation response.json generic

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
The mande npm package does not provide automatic runtime validation for response.json data [1][2][3]. While mande allows you to use TypeScript generics to specify the expected return type for a request—for example, by calling.get<{ id: number; name: string }>—this is a compile-time feature only [1][2][4]. It informs the TypeScript compiler about the shape of the data, but it does not perform any validation at runtime to ensure the API response actually matches that structure [1][2]. If you require runtime validation (e.g., to ensure a response matches a schema), you would need to implement it manually after the request resolves, or use a separate validation library like Zod, Joi, or Yup to validate the data returned by the promise [1][2]. In summary, the generic parameter in mande is strictly for developer-side type safety and does not include runtime schema enforcement [1][5][6].

Require a literal true maker flag.

If an API payload contains isMaker: 'false', mande's generic type does not validate the JSON at runtime. The value can reach setTargetsList() and this branch unchanged. For a support-level 1 or 2 record without a supported vendor tag, the truthy value makes deviceTier() return 'maker', so the maker filter can select it.

Proposed fix
- if (device.isMaker) return 'maker'
+  if (device.isMaker === true) return 'maker'

The Axiometa entry is live in the registry (117 devices, isMaker: true,
images, and the bool typo fixed), so the overlay has nothing left to bridge.

Removing it rather than leaving it dormant: it had become the weaker of two
paths to the same board. The Konami reveal is gated on an eligible nightly
existing, so a board it surfaces always has something to flash; ?pending=1 had
no such check. Its dedupe was also wrong for this case - it tested against the
apiTargets-derived list while an activelySupported: false board lands in
unsupportedApiTargets, so the entry would not have retired itself.

deviceStore.targets goes back to the event overlay alone.
DO NOT MERGE. Promotes AXIOMETA_GENESIS_MINI to activelySupported in
setTargetsList so the Maker band is visible on this branch's preview
deployment; the registry publishes it false, which correctly hides it behind
the Konami gate.

Side effect worth knowing while reviewing the preview: promoting the board also
un-pins it from the nightly, so the Firmware step offers stable and alpha
releases. None of them contain the build - the variant landed on develop
2026-09-17, after the current nightly was cut - so the Flash button stays
disabled whichever release is picked, and the Unreleased chip no longer shows.

Revert before merge. The real sequence is a published binary first, then
activelySupported: true in meshtastic/api.
The Makers pill had a coloured dot while the nine vendor pills were flat grey,
which made the row look half-designed. Levelling them up turned up a bigger
problem: no pill had a selected state at all. "All Devices" was hardcoded lit
and every vendor pill hardcoded unlit, with nothing bound to store.tag, so
clicking RAK filtered the list and lit nothing.

- Exactly one pill is lit at a time, and "All Devices" resumes when the filter
clears. Architecture pills get a filled indigo selected state of their own,
so they read as chosen without borrowing the accent the vendor pills use.
- Every pill carries its board count, from the unfiltered list so the numbers
hold still while a filter is applied. Tabular figures keep the row from
  jiggling.
- A 1px hover lift, matching .btn-primary, behind a prefers-reduced-motion
guard - the first one in this stylesheet.
- A vendor the registry ships nothing for gets no pill, rather than one that
filters to an empty modal. The Makers pill already worked this way.

Contrast fix that came with it: .tag-pill-active drew its text from --accent,
which in the light theme is #1A9B4A - 3.2:1 on the tinted pill, against the
4.5:1 a 12px/500 label needs. Now a --tag-active-text token pair, #67ea94 dark
(6.5:1) and meshtastic-700 #137136 light (5.4:1). Latent before, because only
"All Devices" was ever lit; visible on ten pills now.

The nine hand-written buttons become one v-for over a vendor list, which also
takes the file from 6 missing-key warnings to 1 and drops 56 pre-existing
html-indent errors.
The count was subordinate to the vendor name by being faded - #a1a1aa at 0.55
opacity, which works out to 2.8:1 on the pill against the 4.5:1 an 11px label
needs. That is why it read as washed out.

Dimming was the wrong lever. The count now sits in its own rounded chip at
full-strength text, so it stays subordinate by form and size rather than by
being hard to read. Measured on the four combinations it can appear in:

  dark inactive #a1a1aa on #363638 4.7:1
  dark active #67ea94 on #355943 5.2:1
  light inactive #4a4a4a on #edebe8 7.5:1
  light active #137136 on #ccead4 4.7:1

A min-width and tabular figures keep the pills from reflowing as counts change.
The hover lift pushed each pill 1px above its row's content box, and the row
was overflow-x-auto. Setting either overflow axis to a non-visible value makes
the other compute to auto rather than visible, so the row clipped vertically
and shaved the top off the pill mid-animation.

The overflow was vestigial: the row is flex-wrap, so items wrap and there is
never horizontal overflow to scroll - scrollHeight equalled clientHeight, and
paddingTop was 0, which is why the lift had nowhere to go. Dropping the class
restores overflow: visible on both axes.

Verified under a real pointer hover: transform applies, the pill rises 1px
clear of the row, and nothing clips.
The Makers pill now matches the vendor pills exactly - label plus count. The
tier still reads from its band heading and its card mark, so the dot was
carrying no information the row needed.

Also drops the .bg-tier-maker utility, which existed only for that dot.
