[SUPERSEDED] upstream #3899 — enable OTLP gzip + HTTPS export #9

Current disposition — 2026-10-16

SUPERSEDED / OWNER_COVERED, not READY TO POST. Existing downstream PR #10 is closed unmerged after owner origin #4399 landed. Source branches/history remain intact; no factory merge or new native platform acceptance claimed. Canonical queue: https://github.com/kvnloo/oss-factory/issues/67

Staging ticket for NVIDIA#3899.

Upstream target

NVIDIA#3899 — OTLP trace export fails to start with gzip compression or an HTTPS collector endpoint.

Downstream status

READY TO POST upstream once GitHub org writes are available.

Validated against upstream main @ 021400be8af471f8669369e679de3e18cf0bd672.

Patch

Branch: fix/3899-otlp-gzip-https

The patch:

• enables opentelemetry-otlp features gzip-tonic, tls-aws-lc, and tls-roots;
• uses OpenShell's existing AWS-LC rustls backend and native trust roots;
• adds exporter-setup regressions for generic OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_COMPRESSION=gzip and https:// endpoints;
• documents platform-root HTTPS verification and that gzip is supported while zstd remains unsupported.

No Cargo.lock delta is required because the newly activated transitive crates are already locked elsewhere in the workspace.

Promotion gate

Post upstream only after fork CI is green.
