## Generated Context Structure

The tool assembles context into a structured prompt with the following components:

```
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Generated Coding Context Prompt │
├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ │
│ ┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │
│ │ 1. Rules Content (Markdown) │ │
│ │ • Skipped in resume mode (-r flag) │ │
│ └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ │
│ │
│ ┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │
│ │ 2. Skills Metadata (XML) - Optional │ │
│ │ • Available skills with names & descriptions │ │
│ │ • Progressive disclosure - full content on demand │ │
│ │ • Only included if skills are discovered │ │
│ └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ │
│ │
│ ┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │
│ │ 3. Task Content (Markdown) │ │
│ │ • Task-specific instructions │ │
│ │ • Parameter substitutions (${param}) │ │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
```

**Key Points:**
- **Rules**: Reusable context that applies across multiple tasks
- **Skills**: Enable progressive disclosure of specialized capabilities
- **Task Content**: Specific instructions for the current task with dynamic content expansion
- **Note**: Task frontmatter is used for filtering and metadata but is not included in the output
When supporting context exists, the generated prompt contains:

1. Explicit guidance: the requested task defines the objective; repository rules and skills support that task and do not authorize unrelated workflows or external actions.
2. The requested task, before repository context.
3. Repository rules, each labeled with its source path and enclosed in a Markdown fence longer than any backtick sequence in its content.
4. Optional skill metadata, with full skill content still loaded only on demand.
5. A reminder to continue the requested task.

Task-only output remains unchanged. `Result.Task`, `Result.Rules`, and `Result.Skills` still expose their original content separately. Consumers depending on the old concatenation order or exact `Prompt` string must account for this format change.

These boundaries provide model-facing guidance, not an authorization mechanism. Hosts remain responsible for tool permissions and instruction hierarchy. Agents that independently load repository instructions, and the CLI's `-w` mode, also need host-level handling; this format applies to the combined prompt. See [the opt-in behavioral evaluation](evals/prompt-boundaries/README.md).

Rule aliases resolve to an absolute canonical path before expansion or bootstrap. Each identity is attempted once per discovery pass, including lenient failures. If a later strict root encounters a failed identity, its original error is returned without repeating side effects. Search roots keep their configured order; namespaces are visited first, then agent names in sorted order, preserving each agent's instruction/rules ordering. The first matching alias supplies the rule name, source attribution, and expansion context. Its companion bootstrap wins if present when execution reaches that rule; otherwise the canonical target's companion is used. Companion lookup errors skip only that rule in lenient mode. Different files with identical text remain distinct. Hard links and separate remote clones are not deduplicated by content.

## Combined Prompt Authority and Rule Identity

The combined prompt MUST identify the requested task separately from supporting repository rules and skill metadata. The task is rendered before supporting content. Repository guidance supplies conventions relevant to that task; it does not authorize replacing the task or invoking unrelated external workflows. Host system instructions and tool permissions remain authoritative. Formatting and textual guidance alone do not guarantee model adherence.

Each rule is labeled with its source path and enclosed in a content-aware Markdown fence. Embedded code fences or task-like headings must remain inside the source block. Task-only output is unchanged; consumers using structured Result fields or writing native agent instruction files are responsible for preserving equivalent authority boundaries in their integration.

Rule discovery resolves symlinks and absolute paths before expansion and bootstrap, and attempts each canonical path once per discovery pass. A lenient failure is not retried through another alias, but a later strict reference must return the original failure rather than silently accept it. Namespace paths retain priority; global agent names are sorted, and paths within each agent retain their configured order. The first matching alias supplies rule metadata and expansion context. Its companion bootstrap is selected at execution time, after earlier bootstraps have run: the alias companion is used if present, otherwise the resolved target's companion is used. Companion lookup failures follow per-rule bootstrap error handling and do not stop later rules in a lenient directory. Distinct files with identical content are retained. Hard links and copies in separately downloaded roots are outside canonical-path deduplication.

This changes combined-prompt formatting and makes previously unspecified cross-agent rule ordering deterministic. It does not sandbox executable parameter expansions or bootstrap scripts; only trusted sources should enable those mechanisms.

# Prompt boundary behavioral evaluation

Opt-in evaluation using an authenticated Claude CLI and Go. Run from the repository root:

```sh
go run ./evals/prompt-boundaries
```

The Go harness generates prompts using this checkout's real context assembly and serves its own local MCP stubs. It runs a positive control that explicitly requests a message, then two tasks with supporting rules that try to redirect the agent into unrelated messaging, including a fake task heading and embedded fences. It requires the requested completion marker and inspects actual tool calls, not just the final answer.

All built-in tools except read-only tool discovery, and all external MCP configurations, are disabled. The only executable operations are local stubs: reading a fixed README and recording a message call. No message is sent. The control verifies the messaging stub was actually callable; denied permissions or a missing marker fail the evaluation. The model API is contacted using the CLI's existing authentication and default model. This incurs normal model usage.

Responses, tool-call records, and model usage are retained in the printed temporary evidence directory. Do not treat a passing sample as a general guarantee against prompt injection or as verification of a deployed agent. Unit tests separately validate rendering and deduplication. This evaluation is deliberately not part of the default test suite.
