Please do not paste credentials into an issue

This project reads provider credentials, so the natural way to report a bug — "here is the payload I got back" — is also the natural way to leak a token. A captured response from a provider endpoint frequently contains one: bearer tokens in request echoes, session cookies, and in at least one known case an api_key field inside an otherwise ordinary success payload.

Before pasting anything a provider returned:

  • replace the credential with <redacted> rather than truncating it — a truncated token is still a token, and a prefix is enough to identify an account;
  • check request headers as well as the body;
  • prefer the shape over the values. {"quota": <int>, "used": <int>} is more useful to us than a real capture, because the question is almost always which fields exist rather than what they contain.

Issue text is public and permanent. GitHub retains edited revisions, so editing a comment does not unpublish what was in it. If a credential is posted by accident, rotate it — do not rely on deleting the comment.

Reporting a vulnerability

For anything that should not be public — a credential exposure, a way to make this module leak one, or a flaw in how it stores or transmits them — use GitHub's private vulnerability reporting on this repository rather than opening an issue.

For ordinary bugs, including ones where a provider's data is being read wrongly, a normal issue is right.

What this module does with credentials, so you can judge the surface

It reads credentials that already exist on the machine and never issues, refreshes-into-storage, or transmits new ones:

  • OAuth tokens written by provider CLIs, read from their own files;
  • API keys from environment variables and from an existing local auth store;
  • browser session cookies, decrypted locally for providers that publish quota only to a logged-in web session;
  • credentials served by a local vault module over a loopback socket.

Credentials travel to exactly one place: the provider's own endpoint, over TLS. They are not logged, not written anywhere new, and not included in the module's output.

Three specific properties, because they are the ones a reviewer would want to check rather than take on trust:

  • Published error strings are stripped of URLs (without_url in crates/quota-core/src/http.rs), because a transport error otherwise echoes the request URL including any query-string token.
  • Credential file paths are replaced by descriptions in errors (env::read_credential_file), so an error never carries a home directory.
  • One unredacted channel is documented rather than hidden: a non-2xx response body contributes a 200-character excerpt to the error string. No provider currently returns a secret in an error body, and the reasoning for not filtering it heuristically is recorded at the site in http.rs.

Two OAuth families are deliberately not read even though their tokens sit on disk in a readable place: Anthropic's and OpenAI's refresh tokens rotate single-use on exchange, so a background reader that refreshed one would revoke the user's active session. That decision is recorded in crates/quota-core/src/antigravity.rs.
