For Volunteers V2 forms,
app = VOLUNTEERS
purpose = DEFAULT (for volunteer signup; other purposes to follow)
universe = the Involvement universe of the event (no separate Volunteers universe)
profile field selector = full profile
open from/until and editable until settable per-form (we may want to have eg. one public signup form and multiple restricted signup forms accessible by knowing the URL)
Volunteer forms can also have dimension defaults in the Involvement universe.
A volunteer applicant has an Involvement of app = VOLUNTEERS, type = VOLUNTEER_APPLICATION that points to the application by response.
An accepted volunteer has an Involvement of app = VOLUNTEERS, type = VOLUNTEER with response = None.
Out of scope, but be wary: Emperkelation in the future shall take into account app = VOLUNTEERS, type = VOLUNTEER Involvements as it nowadays considers Signups from Labour V1.
