Maintain a link to the current single-file version #129
i read this as asking for an unchanging alias URL that points to the latest or current version, so that someone who just wants the latest can list it on a script or manifest of what to pull into a new or rebuilt VM / laptop / etc.
(Some would have both a -current and -testing or -blead URLs)
Some would prefer to hard code an ends-in-0 rev like https://beyondgrep.com/ack-v3.5.0 so they don't unwittingly get different versions in different VMs/laptops/etc (but those are over-lapping the with folks who'd have a cache inside their firewall), but this is a perfectly reasonable suggestion, and yes quite common for other apps/distributions.
This is probably actually a WebSite issue rather than an Ack3.

Tell me more about this. Are you asking for you as a person who updates their tools every so often? Are you part of a larger packaging project?

Just a person who updates their tools every so often. I don't want to have to go to the
ackpage every so often and check what version number is the latest. Other software I use does this (e.g., https://ftpmirror.gnu.org/parallel/parallel-latest.tar.bz2 and https://downloads.rclone.org/rclone-current-linux-amd64.zip) and I thought I would request this feature.n1vux commentedon Feb 16, 2022
