Forwardable Peerswap Incentives, And Closing Surreptitious Communications Tunnels

    https://delvingbitcoin.org/t/forwardable-peerswap-incentives-and-closing-surreptitious-communications-tunnels/2917

ZmnSCPxj argues forwardable peerswaps beat splicing on incentive-compatibility, privacy, and O(1) onchain footprint when rebalancing multi-hop, and sketches how Spilman-style temporary channels plus pubkey tweaks close “surreptitious communications tunnels” that would otherwise let initiator/acceptor skip paying forwarders.

    lnd v0.21.4-beta.rc1

    https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lnd/releases/tag/v0.21.4-beta.rc1

RC with HTLC lifecycle / interceptor replay fixes, AMP reconstruction no longer cancelling an entire reusable invoice, BOLT1 ping compliance, stricter BOLT11 multi-p rejection, and related graph-migration / breach-retribution hardening — good test target for operators.

    lnd v0.20.5-beta.rc1

    https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lnd/releases/tag/v0.20.5-beta.rc1

    BIP / PSBT clarifications

    BIP375: validate PSBT_OUT_SP_V0_LABEL length (merged)

    bitcoin/bips#2286

Reference validator now requires the silent-payments v0 label field to be exactly 4 bytes (uint32 LE), closing a gap that allowed malformed short labels when SP_V0_INFO was present.

BIP174: add PSBT_IN_P2C_TWEAK to the type registry (merged)

    bitcoin/bips#2305

Registers the missing BIP-372 pay-to-contract tweak key type (0x19) in the shared PSBT registry so new BIPs cannot accidentally reuse it.

bip138: clarify key selection and apply exclusions across expressions (merged)

    bitcoin/bips#2300

Follow-on to the BIP138 clarifications already on this issue: expands recipient key-selection / exclusion rules across all descriptors in a backup (MuSig eligibility, exposed roots) without intending a breaking decryption change.

    bip98 / BIP352 hygiene (merged)

    bitcoin/bips#2306 · bitcoin/bips#2302

    Example-proof SKIP-hash fix for BIP98, and a small Overview-section fix for BIP352.

    Bitcoin Core wallet & signing

Wallet: add maxfeerate wallet startup option (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#29278

Separate wallet -maxfeerate ceiling so fee-rate limits are no longer overloaded onto maxtxfee — wallet will not create txs above the configured rate.

wallet: allow importprunedfunds for spending transactions (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#34371

Pruned wallets can re-import txs that spend from the wallet (not only credits), fixing balance holes after removeprunedfunds.

sign: skip signing SIGHASH_SINGLE inputs with no corresponding output (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#35984

Closes a walletprocesspsbt footgun where SIGHASH_SINGLE without a matching output could produce a signature that stays valid after outputs are rearranged.

net: don't discourage private broadcast peers (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#36312

Private-broadcast peers are no longer discouraged for ordinary misbehavior signals — pairs with the experimental private-broadcast docs already noted on this issue.

    https://delvingbitcoin.org/t/bitcoin-rs-an-independent-bitcoin-full-node-written-in-rust/2918 · https://github.com/gosuda/bitcoin-rs

Early Delving write-up of an independent Rust full node (client diversity angle, not a Core fork). Highlights an integrated UTXO + Esplora-compatible script index owned by the node, modular fail-closed components, and a design meant to stay externally verifiable while exploring architecture/performance changes that are hard to pursue inside Bitcoin Core — worth a look alongside btcd-style alternative implementations.

    BIP54 test-vector docs

bip54: describe the tree format of the timestamp test vectors (merged)

    bitcoin/bips#2308

Follow-on hygiene for BIP54 (consensus cleanup / timewarp-related) test vectors: the README under bip-0054/test_vectors/ now matches the restructured tree-shaped timestamps.json (shared block_headers / extensions at the root; valid + comment only on leaves) instead of the old flat header_chain array layout.

    Alternative / experimental clients

rbitcoin — Rust full node (archive, not UTXO set)

    https://rbitcoin.org/ · https://github.com/reardencode/rbitcoin · SLP775

Independent Rust full node aimed at server-side / wallet-backend use: map-free relational archive instead of a classic UTXO set + dbcache, pure-Rust consensus (no libbitcoinconsensus dual-eval), BIP324 v2-only P2P, and optional in-process Electrum / Esplora (--shindex). Latest tagged release v0.7.0 (2026-09-18); mainnet still framed as early / high-scrutiny (default milestone skips historical script checks below height 840000). Useful meetup angle for client diversity vs Core monoculture — pair with the existing bitcoin-rs note (gosuda/bitcoin-rs is a separate Rust full-node project).

Bitcoin Core fees, wallet & tooling

fees: fall back to block_policy and minor api change (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#36365

Split from the larger fee-estimator work for a 32.x-friendly backport: default estimatesmartfee estimator option renamed from none to auto, and when mempool_policy cannot estimate the node falls back to block_policy so fee RPCs keep prior behaviour instead of failing open.

wallet: accept uppercase addresses without amount in sendall (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#36375

sendall kept bare recipient strings as typed; bech32 uppercase is valid elsewhere but never matched canonical lowercase EncodeDestination, so those outputs stayed at amount 0 and the call failed. Now normalised before matching.

    tools: Call SHA256AutoDetect in bitcoin-util / bitcoin-tx / bitcoin-wallet (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#36364

CLI tools were stuck on the generic SHA-256 path; they now pick a hardware implementation like kernel users — large speedups for grind / multi-input signing on modern CPUs.

log: move CreateNewBlock() log line behind a new mining category (merged)

    bitcoin/bitcoin#36336

Unconditional template-build weight lines were flooding debug logs under frequent template requests; gated behind -debug=mining.

    BIP375 / BIP346 / BIP54 hygiene

bip-0375: fix P2WPKH scriptPubKeys and signatures in test vectors (open)

    bitcoin/bips#2316

Test vectors used SHA256(pubkey)[:20] instead of HASH160(pubkey) for P2WPKH programs, so none of the 42 ECDSA PSBT_IN_PARTIAL_SIG signatures verify against the keys they claim to spend — important Silent Payments / PSBT v0 send hygiene before anyone treats the vectors as oracle.

bip-0375: add missing Input Eligibility row to Valid PSBTs table (open)

    bitcoin/bips#2315

Docs table missed the “bare OP_2 script is not a segwit v2 witness program” valid vector and its Input Eligibility category; small companion to the vector-fix PR above.

BIP-346: fix two-byte index parsing in the reference implementation (open)

    bitcoin/bips#2314

Ref-impl two-byte in/out index composition dropped the low 7 bits of the first byte, so high indices could never parse correctly — worth a look if covering OP_CHECKTEMPLATEVERIFY / txhash select hygiene.

Address some wording nits in BIP 54 (open)

    bitcoin/bips#2313

Clarifications raised while implementing BIP 54 in btcd from the spec alone — useful “spec as the only source” feedback loop alongside the BIP54 test-vector docs already on this issue.
