Bars

A Flutter app for writing rap lyrics, finding rhymes, and syncing lines to a beat.

MIT License Flutter English and French UI

Features

  • Notepad — write and reorder lines, with live rhyme suggestions (French and English dictionaries) and per-line timecodes.
  • Timecoded mode — import an audio file and mark each line at its exact moment in the track.
  • Rap mode — a clean, full-screen, auto-scrolling display synced to playback, for the studio or the stage.
  • Export/import — package a project (lines, timecodes, audio) into a .lrcproj bundle: a standard .lrc lyrics file plus your audio, so it's readable outside Bars too, not just to back up or move between devices.
  • Folders — organize projects into folders.
  • Localized UI — ships in English and French.

See ROADMAP.md for the phased implementation plan and CLAUDE.md for contributor guidance.

Why Bars?

Most rap-writing apps (RhymeFlux, Rhymer's Block, and similar) cap free usage at one or a few songs and put the rest behind a $15/month-ish subscription. Bars has no account, no song limit, and no paywall — it's free and open source, full stop.

Getting started

flutter pub get
flutter run

Contributing

Contributions are welcome — see CONTRIBUTING.md for setup, conventions, and what's expected of a pull request.

Bars is free, has no ads, and collects no data. If you'd like to help cover the cost of publishing it on app stores, you can contribute on Open Collective.
