Branch: jaabell:fix/explicitdifferencestatic-damping → OpenSees/OpenSeesDocumentation:master
Code PR: OpenSees/OpenSees#1827

Updates the ExplicitDifferenceStatic page for the code PR above:

  • Syntax integrator ExplicitDifferenceStatic <-alpha $alpha> <-simple> <-vEps $vEps> with a parameter table
    (defaults 0.59, combined law, 1e-4).
  • The simple and combined Cundall/FLAC local damping laws, their equivalence to damping the unbalanced force for
a lumped mass, use with parallel diagonal systems, and the lumped-mass limitation. Invalid options warn and are
ignored. Available from Tcl and Python.
  • A short note that earlier versions damped only the applied nodal loads.
  • Two downloadable, verified examples in analysis/codeExample/:
    • example_sdof_decay.tcl: decay ratio 0.818161 vs exp(−2α) = 0.818731 for α = 0.1;
    • example_pseudostatic.tcl: converges to the exact static displacements.
  • References: Cundall (1987); Itasca FLAC manual. This also fixes the existing unreferenced-citation warning on
    this page.

Builds with Sphinx with no warnings from the changed files.

…ples

The page described a fixed alpha = 0.59 and only the simple damping law.
Document the options `integrator ExplicitDifferenceStatic <-alpha $alpha>
<-simple>`, the default combined law acting on the assembled unbalance
P - R(u), Tcl and Python availability, and add two verified examples:
SDOF free-vibration decay and a pseudo-static hanging chain that relaxes
to the static solution.

…on-based damping, non-fatal options)

Describe the damping in user terms (equivalent to F_d = -alpha |F| sign(v)
on the unbalanced force for the lumped mass the scheme uses), note that it
works with the parallel diagonal systems and is not disturbed by printB,
add -vEps, state that invalid options are warned and ignored, and that the
damping history resets on domain changes. Update the ExplicitBathe
see-also to its current syntax.
