…rolling distros The AppImage bundled an old libwayland-client that aborts WebKitWebProcess with "Could not create surfaceless EGL display: EGL_BAD_ALLOC" against a newer host Mesa (Arch, Fedora). tauri-bundler 2.10 (tauri-apps/tauri#16062) updates linuxdeploy and its GTK plugin, which stop bundling it. Problem
The v1.5.0 AppImage aborts at launch on rolling-release distros (reproduced on Arch, kernel 7.2, Mesa from the current repos, Hyprland/Wayland):
WebKitWebProcessdumps core and the main process follows.Cause
The AppImage is built by tauri-bundler's bundled linuxdeploy + GTK plugin. The older versions pinned by
@tauri-apps/cli2.10.1 (the version inpackage-lock.json) shiplibwayland-client.so.0inside the AppImage. That copy is older than what the host Mesa expects, so EGL initialisation fails.Confirmed by unpacking the v1.5.0 AppImage and deleting only
usr/lib/libwayland-*: the unmodified binary then starts and renders normally.Tauri fixed this upstream in tauri-apps/tauri#16062 (tauri-bundler 2.10): newer linuxdeploy and GTK plugin, "fixing
EGL_BAD_PARAMETERcrashes on newer Mesa and bundling on Fedora and Arch".Change
@tauri-apps/cli^2→^2.12.1inpackage.json, lockfile regenerated. No Rust or frontend code changes. The
tauricrate stays at 2.10.3 (the CLI is versioned independently).Testing
ubuntu:22.04, same apt deps asrelease.yml, tauri build --bundles appimage):libwayland-client.so.0is no longer in the AppDir (libwayland-cursor/-egl/-serverremain, which is harmless). The resulting AppImage launches and renders on Arch with no coredumps.Side note: setting
WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1is not enough. The main process survives, but the web process still crashes and the window stays blank.🤖 Greetings from Claude
