Summary

Closes #1243

Fixes Playwright browser E2E test state leak in frontend/e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts and unscoped KDS item locator in frontend/e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts (Finding F5).

What failed and why

In frontend/e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts:

  • Scenarios 1 & 2, Scenario 3, and Scenario 4 create takeaway orders with item e2e-product (E2E Coffee).
  • Scenarios 3 & 4 advance items to preparing status and cancel out of the modal without completing or cancelling the orders.
  • These uncancelled orders remained active on KDS.
    In frontend/e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts:
  • Lines 103 and 208 used page.getByText('E2E Coffee').last().click(), an unscoped selector across all KDS tickets.
  • When run after approval-manager-selection.spec.ts, .last() clicked a lingering order ticket from the previous spec rather than the newly created dine-in order, causing expect(page.getByText('سفارش شماره ${order.order_number}')).toBeVisible() to fail.

How it was reproduced

Reproduced with --retries=0:

cd frontend && npx playwright test --config=playwright.config.ts --project=chromium --workers=1 --retries=0 e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts

Baseline recorded in /Users/gurkiratkhaira/tools/firstmate/data/remediate-f5-e2e-isolation/repro-baseline.txt:

  1) [chromium] › e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts:42:5 › Batch 5D: KDS and Server App render and function correctly in English and Persian (RTL)
    Error: expect(locator).toBeVisible() failed
    Locator: getByText('سفارش شماره ORD-20261021-0004')
    Expected: visible
    Timeout: 5000ms

What changed and why it is the minimal fix

  1. frontend/e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts:
    • Added createdOrderIds tracker to track order IDs created across scenarios.
    • Added teardown in afterEach to ensure e2e-owner has PIN 1111 and iterate over createdOrderIds to cancel all orders via PATCH /api/orders/${orderId}/status with { status: 'cancelled', override_pin: '1111', approver_id: 'e2e-owner' }.
    • Updated Scenario 4 route mock pattern from **/api/staff?active=true to **/api/staff* returning { staff: [], approvers: [] } to intercept both query params and approvers endpoint.
  2. frontend/e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts:
    • Scoped E2E Coffee item click to the ticket container matching order.order_number in both English and Persian sections (page.locator('div.bg-card').filter({ hasText: \#${order.order_number}` }).first()`).
    • Wrapped test body following order creation in try ... finally and cancelled order.id in finally so no active KDS orders leak into subsequent specs.

Verification commands and results

  1. Isolated run:
    cd frontend && npx playwright test --config=playwright.config.ts --project=chromium --workers=1 --retries=0 e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts
    -> PASS (1 passed in 4.9s)
  2. Pair-ordered run:
    cd frontend && npx playwright test --config=playwright.config.ts --project=chromium --workers=1 --retries=0 e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts
    -> PASS (4 passed in 9.6s)
  3. Reverse-ordered run:
    cd frontend && npx playwright test --config=playwright.config.ts --project=chromium --workers=1 --retries=0 e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts
    -> PASS (4 passed in 9.1s)
  4. Linter:
    npm run lint
    -> PASS (0 errors, 0 warnings in frontend)

Invariants statement

No database migrations, permissions, API payloads, financial calculations, or telemetry behavior changed. Changes are strictly confined to test cleanup and locator scoping in frontend/e2e/.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Improved end-to-end test cleanup by tracking created orders and cancelling them after test execution.
    • Added fallback authorization handling to restore owner access when manager cancellation is unavailable.
    • Expanded staff and approver API mocking for scenarios with no available staff.
    • Updated English and Persian verification flows to select items from the correct order ticket.
    • Ensured cleanup runs even when test steps fail.

Walkthrough

The E2E tests now track and cancel orders created by approval-manager scenarios. The i18n test scopes KDS item selection to the card for its created order and attempts cancellation during cleanup, with an owner-authorization retry.

Changes

E2E test order handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Approval test order cleanup
frontend/e2e/approval-manager-selection.spec.ts
The tests track created order IDs and attempt cancellation after each test using owner override credentials. Scenario 4 mocks all staff API requests with empty staff and approver lists.
i18n test order scoping and cleanup
frontend/e2e/i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts
English and Persian KDS item selection targets the card containing the created order. The test attempts cancellation during cleanup and retries with owner credentials if manager authorization fails.

Explanation

The description provides a detailed summary, failure analysis, implementation details, verification commands and results, and compatibility information. It does not reproduce every template section, such as cross-cutting surfaces and the contributor checklist, but the required change rationale and verification evidence are complete.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within #1243. They modify only the two affected E2E specifications, add order cleanup, broaden the Scenario 4 staff mock, and scope the KDS locators. No unrelated product or API behavior changes are shown.

Explanation

The implementation addresses the coding requirements in #1243. approval-manager-selection.spec.ts tracks the created orders in Scenarios 1/2, 3, and 4 and attempts cancellation in afterEach. i18n-batch-5d.spec.ts scopes both KDS clicks to the card containing order.order_number and cancels the order in finally. The reported isolated run and both pair-ordered runs support those changes. The required full unsharded npm run test:e2e:browser --retries=0 result is not provided, so complete acceptance cannot be established.

Resolution

Provide the result of the full unsharded npm run test:e2e:browser --retries=0 execution.

[Low impact] The changes affect only two browser test workflows.

Fix the rejected owner PIN update before merging; the approval tests still leave active orders behind.

Findings

  1. P1 Preparing orders still leak ▶

Summary

This PR adds order cleanup to both browser specs and scopes KDS item clicks to the created order.

  • Approval-manager tests clear their orders after each scenario.
  • The localization test opens its own KDS ticket and clears it afterward.
