This mod replaces the tactical symbols on Soviet ground vehicles, which appear on the turret cheeks, spotlight cover or stowage boxes, with the gold and red Guard badge, which served as livery for units with 'Guard' status, not only for parades and inspections but also on manoeuvres. One could imagine if war broke out suddenly, or under the guise of a training exercise, the combatants may not have time to paint over their emblems - so they must fight in full regalia, like their fathers and grandfathers before them!
The effected vehicles are the BMP-1(P), BMP-2, BRDM-2 BTR-60PB, BTR-70, T-62, all T-64 variants, and the T-80. Changes should appear in all missions, including use of the customizer to add Soviet vics where they didn't originally appear. Changes will also appear in the main menu dioramas.
This mod also adds the actual guard badge to Soviet infantry, worn on the right breast of the tunic.
There is are several options in the MelonPreferences config file (generated after the first time you run the mod):
-Remove camo netting off the turrets of vehicles where it would conceal the guard emblems. OFF ("false") by default.
-Disable console log messages reporting vehicles being found and modified (this can be voluminous). OFF by default.
-Flags for each vehicle type and infantry to include or exclude according to taste. All ON by default.
Installation
This mod requires MelonLoader and is intended to be used with Version 0.6.1!
This mod does NOT require the Vehicle Preloader or Texture Loader.
To install, simply extract the "SovietGuards.dll" file into your /mods/ folder.
Acknowledgements
This mod does not copy or incorporate any material wholesale from other modders, but were it not for the availability of the source code written by ATLAS and Andrix44, this project
would never have come to fruition. I owe them, and the geniuses behind the UnityExplorer project a debt of gratitude.
Known Issues
- The emblems don't disappear or darken after a vehicle has blown up and burnt down to a rusty hulk.
- The badges on infantry have no proper specularity, as they share the dull paint material with the vehicle decals.
- There may be compatibility problems with other mods that heavily modify the components of Soviet vehicles. (Pact Increased Lethality seems to work fine)
