I am almost positive that the lock and unlock example provides no advantages though I didn't run the code. What I would do is make sure that the codimension actually makes a difference on the lock variable, and that the lock and unlock statements also couldn't simply be replaced by critical and end critical with the same results. I really appreciate this work because it is one of very few resources that shows both critcal/end critical and lock/unlock examples, so I definitely think you should keep working on this and keep it available!
