The desktop file does not pass validation:

/tmp/.mount_appimajy1xas/cqrlog.desktop: hint: value item "Database" in key "Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" can be extended with another category among the following categories: Office, or Development, or AudioVideo
/tmp/.mount_appimajy1xas/cqrlog.desktop: hint: value item "HamRadio" in key "Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" can be extended with another category among the following categories: Network, or Audio

According to the menu spec,

By including one of the Main Categories in an application's desktop entry file, the application will be ensured that it will show up in a section of the application menu dedicated to this category. If multiple Main Categories are included in a single desktop entry file, the entry may appear more than once in the menu.

Hence, please add at least one of the following in the Categories= key.

Main Category Description Notes
AudioVideo Application for presenting, creating, or processing multimedia (audio/video)
Audio An audio application Desktop entry must include AudioVideo as well
Video A video application Desktop entry must include AudioVideo as well
Development An application for development
Education Educational software
Game A game
Graphics Application for viewing, creating, or processing graphics
Network Network application such as a web browser
Office An office type application
Science Scientific software
Settings Settings applications Entries may appear in a separate menu or as part of a "Control Center"
System System application, "System Tools" such as say a log viewer or network monitor
Utility Small utility application, "Accessories"

In addition, you could specify one or more from the longer list of Additional Categories.

Please test the result with desktop-file-validate and make sure it passes.

Additionally, these libraries should not be bundled inside AppImages since it can prevent the application from running correctly:

The AppImages now seem to be available directly on GitHub:

…without log flood (#3926)

* retest-prs.sh: -u to re-test PRs without a test result label; skip deleted forks

-u selects open PRs that change one file in data/ and have neither
screenshot-ok nor an error-* label, except those whose test is still
queued or running or awaits approval. PRs whose fork was deleted are
skipped in all modes, since GitHub cannot reopen them once closed.

* check-libc.sh: glibc requirement from 99% of the ELF files; no null-byte warnings

X-AppImage-Glibc-Required was the newest version referenced by any ELF
file. In SageMath 10.9 (1438 dynamically linked files, built on
manylinux2014), 1437 need at most glibc 2.17 and a single debugpy helper
(pydevd attach_linux_amd64.so, only loaded to attach a debugger) needs
2.34, so the page claimed 2.34. Now the newest version that 99% of the
files need counts (below 100 files, all of them); the files left out are
listed in the log. The runtime still counts in full.

Also detect ELF files with od instead of $(head -c 4), which made bash
print a warning for every binary file (1.6 MB of log for SageMath).

* check-libc.sh: count every ELF file again (revert the 99% rule)

Every ELF file in the AppImage counts, even one that is only loaded in
rare cases (like debugpy's attach helper in SageMath, loaded by the
bundled Python), since it is part of the AppImage. Keeps the od-based ELF
detection, which avoids a bash warning for every binary file.

❌ Test failure

@ok2cqr: this pull request adds the AppImage from your GitHub repository to the AppImage catalog; the test reports the following. Could you have a look?

Tested:

Compatibility: not self-contained: uses the C library of the system; references glibc 2.38

  • The AppImage needs a newer C library (glibc, or the C++ library libstdc++) than the test system has; the error names the version that is missing (e.g. GLIBC_2.38). The test runs on the oldest Ubuntu LTS release that is still in standard support (see https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle), because an AppImage is meant to run on any current Linux distribution, including older ones, and glibc can only be as old as the system the AppImage was built on: a program built on a newer system links against symbols that older systems do not have. The fix is to build on the oldest still-supported LTS release (in GitHub Actions, the oldest ubuntu-* runner still offered, or a container of that release), not on the newest system. If the program itself needs a newer compiler, build in a container of the old release with a newer toolchain (e.g. the toolchain PPAs), statically link what needs it, or bundle the C library together with its dynamic loader (ld-linux) in the AppImage: then the host's glibc does not matter at all (the test reports X-AppImage-Libc=bundled). See https://docs.appimage.org/reference/best-practices.html#binaries-compiled-on-old-enough-base-system
  • The application quit or crashed right after starting; the error below usually shows why. Note that the test runs the application without network access, on purpose, and that this is a requirement for the catalog: an AppImage must start without network (users are offline too). If the application needs a server, a login or an update check to start, please make it show its window (or at least a message) first and connect afterwards, and handle a failed connection instead of exiting.

What next: once the AppImage is fixed (e.g. in a new release), comment /retest here to test it again. If it should not be in the catalog after all, close this pull request; an app that is already in the catalog can be removed by a maintainer with /remove.
